Malden Uses Grant Funding to Improve Safety on Salem Street

Safe roads and sidewalks are easy to overlook until they need improvement. Yet every day, Massachusetts residents rely on transportation infrastructure to get to work or school and home again safely.

MassDOT has given an $852,846 grant to the City of Malden to improve safety and efficiency along Salem Street between Main Street and Broadway. Upgraded crosswalks, pavement markings, and transportation renovations are just a few of the changes that the funding will provide for vehicles, bus passengers, and pedestrians. Despite how simple they seem, these upgrades are crucial to maintaining community safety and cohesion.

There is more to transportation infrastructure than just paint and pavement. It is the network that makes it possible for people to travel safely and for emergency services to respond when necessary.

Projects like this demonstrate how transportation funding can be used to strengthen infrastructure, improve safety, and deliver lasting benefits for residents.

This project reflects a community making smart use of transportation funding to address everyday safety concerns before they become larger problems. Improvements such as safer crossings and clearer markings help reduce risks for everyone who uses the road.

Good roads save residents money. Bad ones cost them. Investing in transportation infrastructure today helps avoid more costly repairs and safety issues in the future.

When communities like Malden invest in roads, bridges, and pedestrian infrastructure, they invest in the safety and quality of life of the people who depend on them every day.

Better roads and safer crossings mean stronger, safer communities across Massachusetts.
