Longmeadow residents have voted to fund a $151 million new middle school project, replacing the aging Glenbrook and Williams Middle Schools. In a special town election, taxpayers approved covering roughly $96 million of the cost through a property tax increase.

Beginning in 2028, property taxes will rise about $247 per $100,000 of assessed home value, gradually decreasing until the town’s loan is repaid by 2057. Supporters say the project is vital to provide safe, modern learning spaces, while opponents cite concerns about the financial burden and loss of neighborhood schools.

“The time is now,” said Longmeadow SMART Committee Chair Cameron Burke, noting that the district could lose $50 million in state funding if the project didn’t move forward. Construction is expected to begin in July 2026, with completion planned for 2028.
